How the World Works

We have moved into our next Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works.  Through this unit, we are exploring what things are made of, properties (that's an exciting word!), how something might change and how it works.  Investigate, investigate, investigate…we love it!

Mrs. Snyder's class studied snowflakes inside and out…brrrr!

By using soap (borax) and hot water the flexible, soft "snowflake" turned into a beautiful, rough, hard, crystal.  This sure left the Explorers with a lot of wonders!

 Oobleck?  What is that?
Our courageous Explorers investigated a fun material called Oobleck.  It had some very unusual properties.  It looked wet, but felt dry. It was hard to push our finger through, but then would ooze out of our hands if we picked it up.  Wonder Journals were filled with questions!

Chinese New Year Celebration

Patrick Takes Action!

Patrick was very courageous and presented information to the entire school about his family's Venezuelan culture.   What a knowledgeable communicator!

Expressing our Creativity

Over the last two weeks, we have been wrapping up our Unit of Inquiry How We Express Ourselves. Understanding that we can appreciate and learn a lot about a culture through their celebrations was vey interesting!  Reflect on the illustrations with your child.  I bet you will be impressed about the explanations they provide about the Chinese New Year.

*We will ring in the New Year with a celebration as a whole school Wednesday afternoon.



100 Days!!
The 100th Day of school has come!  Wow, can you even believe we have been together 100 days?  Where has the time gone?

The 100 Day projects were so much fun to share and see how our friends represented their group of 100.  Our knowledgeable Explorers each presented their projects and then some participated in a gallery walk to enjoy the projects even more.  The work that went into them and their creativity was truly appreciated!

Alta Takes Action!

We sure have had a bitter cold winter.  Alta recognized the impact this has on the homeless and decided to reflect that in her 100 Day Project. In an effort to help others, Alta designed her project to encourage kindergarten students to bring in 100 cans of food to donate to the CLE Food Bank.  What a fantastic idea and a tremendous effort to help others in our community!
