Our Water, Our Responsibility

Studying the location of rivers, oceans, canals and lakes around the world!

We have had such a fun time exploring the earth's precious natural resource, water!  Through the key concepts form, causation and responsibility, we have investigated, conservation, the water cycle, needs and wants and pollution.  

Through all of our inquires we have found that conservation of water is so much more than saving it.  It is our responsibility to use it wisely for people and all living things. 

Freddy the Fish, in a story we read, went on an adventure!  On his way, he ended up finding all kinds of ways our water gets polluted. Our Explorer's were quick to take action though and saved him by putting him back in clean water at the end of his adventure.

A true highlight of our week was the amazing outdoor class with Mrs. Semrad!  "Roddie's Mom" is an Environmental Scientist and helped us understand exactly how water gets filtered and then we were able to try to save our own mini Lake Erie's from harmful pollutants.  It wasn't an easy task, but we sure used our creativity to try to get the pollutants out of the our lake. We had a BLAST!

Thank you too to Owen, Kai and Lily's mom Laurie for making a fantastic assistant!

This lesson sure inspired our caring Explorers to take action!  Here are just a few of the signs that were made for their neighborhoods!

We are still celebrating the hard work of all our Explorers during their concert!  They really did a tremendous job.  Wally the Water Drop even spent some time back at CIS.

Teachers Taking Action

Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Snyder ran in the "4 Miles 4 Water" event at Edgewater Park on Saturday.

Water Everywhere!

Our inquiry continues! We have been discovering so many interesting facts about water.  Did you know that the water we brushed our teeth with this morning, could have been the same water the dinosaurs drank millions of years ago? The water cycle is truly amazing!

Mrs. Snyder's class created this representation to show 

the water in the world.

One of our very exciting discoveries was that even though the earth is made mostly of water, only a small amount (1%) is water we use, fresh water.  Most of the earth's water is actually salt water found in our oceans.   

The class dyed pasta noodles to illustrate the amount of water represented by each type (salt, frozen, fresh) and created a poster to share this information with others.

Conserving water is about using water wisely.  Water needs to be cared for.  Mrs. Humphrey and Mrs. Taylor's classes investigated different types of pollution found in our water and just how challenging it is to get it clean!  

  
Water is in places we didn't even think about!  Our bodies are made mostly of water!  We even add to the water cycle through our breathing, sweating, crying…  

Water is also found in the foods we eat!  Mrs. Snyder's class dehydrated apples to watch the affect of loosing water.

The class made an important connection:
As this weather gets warmer, staying hydrated is very important for our bodies! Such THINKERS!

Playhouse Square

This week we enjoyed a few trips to Playhouse Square to see two plays, Bleu and Fluff.  What a great time to walk through our city and see some beautiful sites.  Seeing the new outdoor chandelier in the center of our theater district was thrilling!

Concert Rehearsal

We are so exited about our Spring Concert on Monday!  

Please arrive no later than 6:15pm.  The concert will begin at 6:30 in the Waetjen Auditorium at Cleveland State University.  You are surely in for a real treat!
