Research Fun in Kindergarten!

Our Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time, has led us through our neighborhoods and around the world researching homes and how where they are changes how they look and what materials are used to build them.  We have been looking carefully at what they are like, their similarities and differences (form), why they are made a certain way (causation) and how they work (function).  Did you know that some people built their homes with areas for their livestock and others have to put their homes up on stilts.

Mrs. Taylor's son and daughter-in-law live in Germany.  The class had a visit with them using Skype.  She took them on a fascinating tour of their neighborhood.

We sure have had a lot of fun creating homes in our classes!

We love hearing about our friends' homes in different parts of the world!

The area around a home is very unique.  Our environment in Cleveland is beautiful!  Mrs. Snyder's class created Environment Letters to showcase Cleveland's beauty.

One of our adventurous dad's is getting ready for a trip around the world!  He came in to share the countries he will visit during his journey.  So exciting!

Thanks to the Natural History Museum we have been able to study animal homes too!

We LOVE to read!
Have you noticed a reading explosion at home?  We sure have.  We love to read.  We have been practicing the three ways to read a book:
1-Read the words
2-Read the pictures
3-Retell a familiar story

2nd Grade Readers visit on Friday's.  What a treat!

 Mindfulness in Kindergarten
We have been learning about the brain and how the different parts help us make decisions, keep us safe and store our memories.  The brain is very interesting and very, very important!    We have even learned about how we can calm our very busy thoughts to improve decision making throughout our day.  It is something we practice often.  Ask you child to model Core Practice for you.  They are getting so good at it!

Sorting, Counting, Comparing!

Thank you Mystery Readers!

Upcoming Events:
*Field Trip on Friday!
*Student-led Conferences begin next week!  Your child's teacher will send home a reminder of your day/time if you haven't received one already.
