In class we have been talking about our many wonders and how these questions can lead us to new learning. One way we do this is to record our wonders in our Wonder Journals. We will use these journals to keep track of our thoughts. Such creativity and interesting wonders!!
We begin each day with a Morning Meeting. This is an engaging way to begin each day as we work to build community and set the children up for success socially and academically (Responsive Classroom). We greet one another, share, enjoy a group activity and a morning message. Calendar Time is a part of our Morning Meeting as well. We integrate a lot of math and literacy skills during this special time.
We Love to Read!
As readers, we are working on the ways we can read a book. We can read the pictures, read the words or retell a story that we know. Some of our favorite books right now seem to be the David books (by David Shannon) and Pete the Cat (by James Dean)Here is a link to Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, an absolute favorite: Pete the Cat
Writing our letters correctly is very important and we are catching on! If you have an iPad, LetterSchool is a great application for this practice.

Some of our friends have begun to work on building words. The iPad has many great applications for this too! Here two friends work together to build words during Discovery Time:
In math we are working on our numbers, counting and problem solving! We have lots of little poems to help us write our numbers. Has your child shared them?
*Mr. 5 goes down and around. Put a hat on his head and see what you've found.
*Down and over and down some more. That's the way we make a 4.
The Nice Club visited Mrs. Humphrey and Mrs. Taylor's class again with a lesson on how to be nice to someone every day. What a great message!
Mandarin
Mandarin lessons are in full swing. We are working on greeting our friends through songs and words, counting, and general commands. We also enjoyed a virtual tour of Beijing thanks to Laoshi!
